2014 RECAP & UNOFFICIAL TIMING DATA
What a day! Thanks to Kingdom Trails, our community sponsors, volunteers and all you hardy mountain runners & MTB riders for enjoying the ordeal and make it so fun to watch.
On October 27, 2013, three hundred cyclists and runners braved the 24 mile circuit and nearly 4000 feet of climbing and descending on “old-school” singletrack and logging roads. Classic New England weather prevailed, it changed from sunshine to drizzle to hail to snow flurries and back to sunshine.
After slogging over the shoulder of Burke, participants were treated to lively feedstations and miles of singletrack on Victory Hill before heading northwards back to Burke along the Umpire Brook “Gold Trail” through its’ famed “mudhole”, and then back to the Belmont Stock Farm on beautiful Kingdom Trails. Hot meals, warm clothes and prizes awaited.
Special thanks to Ford and Nancy Hubbard of the Belmont Stock Farm, Tim Tierney and the Kingdom Trails Crew, and their dedicated volunteers, and all our sponsors (below) for making the 2013 CircumBurke the best ever. See you next year.
CircumBurke speedsters, this year were Kim Quinlan, Tina Severson and Svetlana FIscher for the Women, Gerard Dunne, Robert Czepas and Aaron Sirtoli for the Men, Jermeiah McCrae-Hawkins and Justin Cline for the 50 miler, and Ben Mirkin and Mike Moriarty for the Singlespeeds.
Chris Funch ran the whole loop in just over 3 hours 9 minutes and Alicia Groft and Lindsay Simpson darted in as speedsters on their own two feet.
Enduro leaders Ryan Littlefield, Kim Quinlan, and Wylie Picotte. The Strava experiment seemed to worked fairly well. No time to chec Strava before the raffle/awards, but maybe more fanfare next year. Let us know how you liked this experiment by emailing us at email@example.com
227 bikers and runners for finished the 2012 Circumburke Challenge. Thanks to Kingdom Trails, Burke Mountain, Conservation Collaboraties, our volunteers, sponsors (and the weather gods) for making the it a great day!
From the brutal ascent up Burke Mountain’s western shoulder to the wilds of Victory and beyond; riders and runners displayed fearless climbing and singletrack skills and endurance all day long. Friendly camaraderie, warm weather, and exciting route made for a nice day on the trails.
In addition to the traditional ascent of the CCC Road at Burke, Kingdom Trails and the State Trails, the 24 mile circuit (according to several disputable GPS readings) routed riders through two miles of town roads and a snowmoblle trail in Victory, as well as new singletrack. An 18 mile bypass version, which eliminated 5 miles of singletrack, was offered as an option for runners.
The 250 registrants included national caliber athletes and determined adventurers who displayed their speed and remarkable fitness out on the circuit. For those of you wondering how fast the circuit can be ridden or run, the times clocked by the following men and women will give you a good idea.
